Monotype Unique print on Hahnemule, Rimu frame 495 x 485mm

Prints exploring colour and texture using hydrangea petals. The works are monotypes, which means they are hand pulled from a printing press and each work is unique. The titles are codes which reference the serial nature of the works. The works were created via a process of working with a combination of two inked plates in pink and yellow, with the petals acting both as a resist to block out ink and a textured surface to capture and transfer ink. Each plate is printed multiple times, sometimes once, twice or three times, showing the gradual fading of the ink with each pass of the press and the consequent deterioration of the delicate petals through the printing process. Through their form and process, the Hydrangea Macrophylla series mimics the cycle of life; as in nature each stage of the process destroys the previous one, but also serves to create anew.
