Ann Winship
3 to 29 June
Since 2014, Ann has been coiling and weaving wire into long, abstract copper sculptures using a technique developed by Ruth Asawa (1926-2013) who lived next door to her as a child. Ann has created over 50 unique ‘spirit vessels’. Her work has been shipped to collectors around the world. As an artist involved in many community minded projects, Ruth’s memory continues to guide Ann’s journey
LOST IN TRANSLATION - SEARCH FOR MEANING: A series of calligraffetic paintings

Detail of Aroha $2200 (left) & Intuition $2100 (right)
Aroha
Brass diamond and brass waist with 7 flowing copper lobes.
Longest, balanced, excellent as a solo piece
The first Spirit Vessel to be christened with a Maori name. The grace and harmony this piece radiates and gives me, could only mean Love!
Intuition
5 differently shaped copper lobes, 3 brass inserts, middle one resting in the hourglass shaped lobe. (largest last lobe is 72 circumference)

Harmony $2000 (left) Expression $2200 (right)
Harmony
Live in Peace.’ There are 8 copper lobes, all unique shapes, representing individuality, but all are interwoven, dependent as they flow into one another, creating a wondrous, unique harmony. The whole is greater than its parts.
Expression
Five lobes containing 5 spheres in 4 of the cavities. Two rest in the lobe, while 3 are suspended in 2 other cavities. There is a sense of protection and peace that reminds me of a seed pod, sheltering the emergence of new possibilities.
