'Maranga Ake Ai' - Stacey Noel
Mixed media 1160W x a860H
“My works are based on the concept of freedom. Freedom to be, to share, to speak, to create, to stand, and to love. To release the chains of judgement and how life ‘should’ be done. To be fearless and courageous and to realise when I am not.
BEING is about the ongoing connection to my culture and my Reo and standing proudly as a Maori artist in a contemporary world. The works have been created using a rust and patina base and acrylic and oil paint
Stacey has been a schoolteacher for 30 years and loves working alongside rangatahi to support them to tell their stories. Her other passion is travel and has spent many years travelling the world. She now spends half of her working week in the studio painting, creating jewellery or planning her next trip abroad. Stacey is a self-taught artist, and through the tragic loss of her mother discovered a way to heal through painting, music, and making jewellery.
