New Landscapes: Sean McDonnell
Sean graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001 and has been exhibiting nationally and internationally since then. He is a keen traveller and surfer. Sean is currently teaching visual arts at Ruawai College in Ruawai. He moved back up north from Auckland two years ago and is loving living at Bayly's Beach where he has a studio. He is passionate about art and enjoys painting in his free time. This is Sean's first solo exhibition in Northland and No 1 Parnell Gallery is a beautiful space in a cool little town.
The exhibition is called " New Landscapes" and these oil paintings are based on the places he has visited and which have inspired him over the last 12 months. He begins each work with a reference point, then let’s the painting take on a life of its own. These are bright vivid works that have a touch of mystery and surrealism.
